MLA Youth Services Spring Training

Presented by the Youth Services Community of Interest, our Spring Training is a flexible, personable way to engage in topics that matter to you and your library. The morning will include two, large group sessions focusing on intellectual freedom and inclusiveness in story time. The afternoon will consist of three breakout, small group sessions that will be led by you, the attendees. Share your unique knowledge and learn from your amazing peers across the state!

Let's Sing a Song at Story Time! 

Presented by Hamlet "Mi Amigo" Meneses and Alina Celeste of GoCreative Programs 

Add more music, activity, and engagement into storytime programming. With an emphasis on diverse representation and bilingual resources, you'll learn strategies to incorporate movement and participation through simple, accessible songs, rhymes and activities tailored for social/emotional development and group management. 

How to Advocate for Intellectual Freedom

Presented by Intellectual Freedom Committee (IFC) from the Missouri Library Association

Discuss a step-by-step guide to having advocacy conversations about intellectual freedom with users who express concern and even challenge library materials. The latest censorship data from ALA and recent censorship issues in and around Missouri will be discussed and the impact we are seeing in libraries across the state. Attendees will have the opportunity within small breakout groups to practice using the advocacy guide while an IFC member facilitates discussion about various scenarios they have experienced when fielding challenges to library materials.
