Marketing Manager, Jefferson County Library, High Ridge, MO

Definition of Work:

Works closely with the Library Director to develop, implement and evaluate the Library’s marketing plan. This individual will use their expertise to increase public awareness of Library services, resources and activities, while expanding the Library’s role as a community hub. Requires public relations, marketing, and graphic design skills and knowledge, as well as an understanding of the Library’s mission and the community the Library serves. A successful candidate will be a team player who enjoys collaborating with other staff, the media, and the public.

Duties:

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the marketing plan, policies, and procedures to promote the Library’s image and the public’s awareness of Library services.
  • Manages social media accounts, proactively recognizes trends, and creates original content. Maintains and encourages positive interactions with the public on these platforms.
  • Cultivates and maintains a positive working relationship with the media contacts. Coordinates film shoots and marketing events for media outlets.
  • Collaborates with department managers and other staff to coordinate marketing and promotional efforts and provides guidance on creating press releases, calendar postings and other marketing efforts in order to maintain cohesive messaging and brand identity.
  • Writes, edits and sends out press releases and media information in tandem with the library branches.
  • Creates and sends out promotional emails, surveys, and other communication pieces; tracks and analyzes patron involvement and retention on our online community engagement platform.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe, and Facebook Business Suite.
  • Helps develop and oversees the production of brochures, flyers, handouts, posters and signs for Library services and events.
  • Serves as a member of the Marketing Committee and Management Team. Works with members to coordinate efforts to promote the Library’s image and monitors the library’s online presence.
  • Plans publicity for Library events and speaks at group and networking events to increase public awareness of services, resources and activities offered by the Library.
  • Participates in budget development for the marketing area and purchases promotional items on behalf of the Library.
  • Manages the Library’s website and online presence.
  • Assists with special Library events, outreach, and photographs Library events for publicity purposes.
  • Collaborates on grants that will enhance and promote the Library’s image.
  • Works collaboratively with staff and trustees to increase public awareness of Library services, resources and activities.
  • Assists with strategic planning, community input sessions, and fundraising campaigns.
  • Attends and participates in Library meetings and conferences.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Library Director.

Requirements for Position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field preferred. Applicants with Associate degrees or degrees in progress may be considered, provided application outlines equivalent knowledge and skills.
  • Minimum of two years’ work related experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • An aptitude for graphic design and photography; with the ability to write, edit and lay out print materials.
  • Portfolio, current websites, and/or promotional designs available for review.
  • High clerical aptitude, detail oriented, with excellent computer and keyboarding skills. Adept at using Windows, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Assist patrons in the use of the online catalog, public computers, Internet-based information and databases, and downloadable and streaming collections available through the library’s website.
  • Develop competence and skills in recognizing popular titles and authors in order to provide readers advisory services.
  • Participate in training opportunities and may participate in staff planning committees.
  • Plan and present programs for youth and caregivers including hosting programs and presenters.
  • May accompany another staff member to childcare centers on bookmobile, to present story time and assist children in choosing books from bookmobile collection. May also accompany another staff member to events in the community with a bookmobile.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • 48 hours minimum college credit & one-year customer service experience preferred. Experience can be substituted for college credit.
  • Previous library experience preferred.

Social Sciences and Copyright Librarian, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO

MU Libraries seeks an innovative and collaborative librarian to serve as Social Sciences and Copyright Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Research and Information Services, this librarian will serve as a subject librarian for psychological sciences and additional social sciences for Ellis Library and as chair of the libraries’ copyright team. Entry level and experienced librarians are encouraged to apply. Training and mentorship will be provided.

Description of Duties

  1. Engages in library liaison activities with assigned academic disciplines in psychological sciences, geography, cultural studies (including Black Studies, Women & Gender Studies, etc.) and other assigned areas within social sciences.
    • Serves as a proactive ambassador to highlight Libraries’ services, resources, and partnerships to meet student and faculty needs.
    • Keeps abreast of trends and developments in information resources, scholarly communication, digital scholarship, and open educational resources, especially in assigned disciplines.
    • Supports open data and research impact.
  2. Provides the entire range of in-person and online reference and research support services (some evening and weekend hours required), providing high quality and timely services.
    • Provides research support to students and faculty in assigned disciplines, and general research support as needed.
    • Participates in the planning and delivery of team-based virtual research services (i.e., chat, text, email, and telephone).
    • Collaborates in the design, implementation, and maintenance of relevant online tools and services in order to integrate library services and resources into the workflow of teaching, learning, and research.
  3. Provides instruction/information literacy services.
    • Plans, coordinates, and delivers in-person and online library instruction that is inclusive and incorporates active learning and assessment.
    • Develops and maintains online guides and digital learning objects to support courses and disciplinary research.
    • Contributes, as needed, to teaching general and interdisciplinary instruction.
  4. Contributes to building and managing collections that are diverse, forward-looking, and that meet the research and curricular needs of assigned departments.
    • Communicates regularly with faculty regarding collection priorities, needs, and access.
    • Maintains familiarity with publishing and research trends.
    • Manages budget allocations and expenditures and monitors usage patterns.
  5. Chairs the MU Libraries’ Copyright Team to support patrons’ use of materials within copyright guidelines.
    • Monitors changes to copyright law and best practices.
    • Maintains the public guide to copyright.
    • Provides instruction on copyright.
    • Answers or refers patron questions regarding copyright and fair use.
    • Coordinates meetings and agendas of the team.
  6. Actively engages in networking, professional development, and other scholarly activities.
    • Contributes to and learns from the profession through local, state, and national professional organizations, presentations, and publications.
    • Identifies and integrates best practices in service, teaching and learning, and scholarly activity.
  7. Advances the Libraries’ and University’s mission through service.
    • Participates in committees and task forces within the Libraries, University, and the profession.
    • Maintains professional collaborations with other campus constituencies, consortia colleagues, and community organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or from a program in a country with a formal accreditation process as identified by ALA.

Position Overview:

The Executive Director (ED) oversees the day-to-day operations of the library district, providing strategic leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality library services to the community. The ED is the chief executive and administrative officer of the library and reports from time to time to the Board of Trustees. Leadership:

Educational and Experiences Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Masters Degree in Library Science, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field preferred
  • 10 years management/supervisory experience (with 5 years minimum in library administration preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of database systems, operations, and public facing services

  1. This is a part-time position, approximately 24 hours per week. Candidates must be available to work budgeted hours during open hours of the library: Monday through Thursday 8:30am – 9:00pm, Friday 8:30am – 8:00pm, Saturday 8:30am – 7:00pm and Sunday 10:00am – 6:00pm. Some Saturday hours will be required. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the Library’s responsibility to the citizens of Greene County.

Position Summary

The Reference Associate assists library patrons with reference inquiries, research assistance, and information retrieval. This role involves guidance on using library resources, answering reference questions, and conducting literary searches. The associate may also assist in maintaining reference materials, creating research guides, and contributing to library programming and outreach efforts. Head Librarian -- Journalism Library, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO

The Head of the Journalism Library is responsible for planning, directing, and administering the staff and programs of the Journalism Library and reports to the Associate University Librarian for the Health and Specialized Libraries. The Head works closely with faculty, students, and staff of the Missouri School of Journalism, and Fellows and staff of the Reynolds Journalism Institute to provide integrated library service in support of the mission of the School. The Head of the Journalism Library also provides proactive outreach to train and support the research needs of doctoral students and faculty. The role provides reference service, selects materials for the library collection, develops and directs instruction programs and promotes information resources. Additionally, the Head works with the School of Journalism and colleagues across the MU Libraries to support the management of analog and digital output of the School of Journalism, its media outlets and the Reynolds Journalism Institute. They carry out MU libraries’ goals and objectives; serve on library, journalism, and university committees; participate in fundraising and development activities.

Description of Duties:

  1. Oversee operations of the Journalism Library, including hiring, training and supervision of the Journalism Librarian and staff. Provides oversight of 1 faculty FTE and 3 staff FTE as well as student assistants with direct supervision of 1 faculty FTE and 1 staff FTE. Develop training programs and establish performance and service standards in carrying out the mission of the Journalism Library.
  2. Actively works with the Dean of the School of Journalism to establish strategic directions for the Journalism Library regularly keeping the Dean and other School leaders informed about progress toward strategic initiatives, as well as library operations and programs.
  3. Provide reference and instruction services to library users. Prepare and conduct onsite and online presentations to journalism and strategic communication classes at the request of faculty. Collaborate with and advise researchers on strategies and resources.
  4. Develop and deliver programs for access, instruction and training in the use of the library and electronic resources to both on campus and distance students. Design instructional materials and guides. Manage and promote use of resources available from the journalism and University of Missouri Libraries. Create ready access to online and open access journalism resources.
  5. Provide library services and research support to the School of Journalism’s newsrooms, including The Columbia Missourian, KOMU, KBIA, and Vox Magazine.
  6. Partner in grant writing and fundraising to support Journalism Library initiatives.
  7. Manage and promote use of the Journalism Library website to provide user instruction and access to resources and services. Create ready access to internet-based national and international journalism resources.
  8. In consultation with the Dean of Journalism and the School of Journalism faculty, select library materials in journalism, mass communication, advertising, public relations and photojournalism to support the mission of the school. Review and revise collection development policies to manage and maintain collections through weeding and transfers to remote storage facilities.
  9. Promote the University mission through professional activities and service on University of Missouri Libraries, School of Journalism, and University of Missouri committees and working groups. 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in information and/or Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in a library, journalism enterprise, or similar environment with responsibilities including instruction, technology management, and public service
  • Coursework or experience in journalism, business, or communications fields
  • 3 years of increasing supervisory or leadership experience

Executive Director, Jefferson County Library, High Ridge, MO

The Jefferson County Library District (JCLD) invites applications for the role of Executive Director. We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join our Leadership Team and guide our library system, which serves the residents in the vibrant communities of the Fox, Northwest and Windsor School Districts. Under the general guidance of the Board of Trustees, and alongside the Leadership Team, the Executive Director will:

  • Serve as technical advisor to the Board; attend all board meetings and oversee the preparation of materials for all meetings.

Head Librarian, Zalk Veterinary Medical Library, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO

The University of Missouri Libraries seek a Head Librarian to plan, direct and administer the programs and staff of the Zalk Veterinary Medicine Library. The librarian will work closely with faculty, clinicians, researchers, staff and students of the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) to provide integrated library services to support the mission of the College. The Veterinary Library supports research, education, and clinical care for the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, MU veterinary clinics and research departments.

Description of Duties

  • Oversee operations of the Zalk Veterinary Medical Library, including hiring, training and supervision of 2 FTE staff and student employees, and manage the library’s physical space. Develop training programs and establish performance and service standards in carrying out the mission of the Veterinary Medical Library.
  • Provide outreach, reference, and instruction services to faculty, clinicians, researchers, staff and students of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and partnering organizations.
  • Provide high-quality research consultation and literature searches pertaining to veterinary medicine and animal health.
  • Develop and update documentation, web resources and promotional content.
  • Perform collection development in the veterinary sciences and animal health, including budget management and selection of resources.

Qualifications
