    The Polk County Library Board of Trustees are searching for a dynamic, out-of-the-box thinker who is an experienced administrator with a commitment to a high level of public service to library patrons and staff.

    The Polk County Library is a well-funded, countywide library system headquartered in the recently renovated library at Bolivar, MO.  There are two branch locations: Fair Play, and Humansville. The library has nine full-time and ten part-time staff members.  The Polk County Library has a budget of $1.2 million.

    The Polk County Library System serves a population of 32,693 individuals in a growing, rural-suburban area located just north of Springfield, MO. Additionally, the Polk County Library is a proud member of Missouri Evergreen. 

    Starting Salary Range:

    • $65,000 - $75,000 (commensurate with experience)

  • Job Purpose/Duties:

    • Advocate for the library in all settings
    • Communicate effectively with board of trustees regarding all operations and initiatives
    • Provide strategic leadership for the coordination and management of library services including planning, budgeting, assignment, and the integration of emerging technologies and trends.
    • Seek external funding in support of strategic library initiatives
    • Develop new and improvised spaces and services
    • Lead PCL collaborative efforts with other libraries and literacy organizations in the state and the region to optimize use of existing resources and to develop new initiatives

 Preferred Qualification:
    • ALA accredited master’s degree in Library Science or degree in a related field with at least 5 years of current, relevant experience.

    • Demonstrated progression of supervisory responsibilities
    • Demonstrated ability to build teams and foster a collaborative working environment
    • Demonstrated administrative responsibilities of bookkeeping, budgeting, and planning
    • Experience with QuickBooks

Dean of Library Affairs, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL

Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU) invites nominations and applications for the Dean of Library Affairs. The Dean is the chief administrative officer of Library Affairs, reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and is a member of Deans Council. The successful candidate is expected to bring a vision for the future that will inspire colleagues to greater scholarly, teaching/ librarianship and service excellence.

The library services of SIU are centralized in Library Affairs and physically within Morris Library. The Library holds over 3 million volumes, 3.6 million microform units, over 30,000 current periodicals and serials and a wide range of electronic resources and databases. Library Affairs’ main units are Information Services (Circulation, Geospatial Resources, Government Information, Periodicals and Special Formats, Reference and Instructional Services), Support Services (Information Resources Management, Library Systems), the Special Collections Research Center (Manuscripts Archives, Political Papers Archives, Rare Books, Records Management, University Archives), Sharp Museum and SIU Press. As the center for access to academic information and collaborative learning outside the classroom, Morris Library’s staff and faculty provide assistive services to all students, faculty, and staff through its reference services, information literacy instruction and technical support. Additionally, the Morris Library building hosts the University Honors Program, Writing Center, MathLab, Saluki Tech, Testing Services, Center for Learning Support Services (tutoring center) and Center for Teaching Excellence. Morris Library is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois and the Greater Western Library Alliance. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represent interests and perspectives of Library Affairs while serving as official spokesperson between Library Affairs and other units within the University, as well as with off-campus constituencies.
  • Enhance and inspire an academic climate, as befits a Research I university, that fosters excellence in teaching/librarianship, externally-funded research/creative activity, scholarly activity, including intellectual property development, and institutional and professional service.
  • Facilitate implementation of the Library Affairs mission, vision, goals, and mobilize faculty, students, and external groups to achieve excellence.
  • Develop, review, and approve all academic planning, departmental budgets, and fiscal plans, their incorporation into a Library Affairs budget, and the implementation of programs within the approved budget framework.
  • Provide leadership by guiding, mentoring, and inspiring the Library Affairs faculty and staff and by facilitating recruitment, retention, promotion and professional development of faculty and staff.
  • Foster a commitment to diversity and an environment that advances the University's policies on inclusive excellence and intolerance of discrimination, and support campus efforts for recruitment, retention, advisement, and placement of a diverse body of undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Develop external support and funding from foundations and governmental agencies.

  • Coordinate library and library-related informational services and collections with the SIU Law Library, Information Technology, other collegiate and academic units on campus, the SIU Medical School and SIU Edwardsville libraries, and with consortial organizations outside of SIU.
  • Ensure that library materials and services conform to and, where appropriate, exceed the standards of accrediting agencies for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs.
  • Support the development of online courses and degree programs with other collegial units on campus.
  • Coordinate and manage the Library Affairs technical infrastructure, including but not limited to computers, software, networks, and ancillary equipment in the classrooms and staff and faculty offices.

Qualifications:

  • Master's in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited, or international- equivalent library program is required. A doctorate or second master's degree is preferred;
  • Distinguished record of teaching/librarianship, research/creative activity, and service consistent with the qualifications for appointment at rank of professor with tenure in Library Affairs at SIU;
  • At least ten years of professional academic library experience, including at least five years in a position of upper-level administrative responsibility;
  • Experience in budget, planning, personnel, student matters, and promotion and tenure review;
  • Preferred experience in academic publishing and/or museum administration;
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in diversity and cultural competency are preferred);
  • Leadership ability to provide strategic direction for Library Affairs in a rapidly changing environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success through library services and programs;
  • Active participation in state, regional, and national library and professional organizations;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain collegial and productive relationships with on- and off-campus constituencies; and
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO), St. Charles City-County Library, St. Peters, MO

The St. Charles City-County Library is seeking a motivated and innovative individual who is passionate about library services to fill our open Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position. The CEO will oversee all aspects of library operations at each of our 12 branches as well as the Bookmobile, including strategic planning, budget management, and community engagement. The CEO is responsible for fostering a culture of innovation and inclusion, while ensuring the delivery and execution of high-quality programs and events to meet the diverse needs of our community and patrons.

Requirements:

  1. Proven leadership skills with experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel management.
  2. Strong understanding of current trends in library services, technology, and community engagement.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships with staff, patrons, and community stakeholders.
  4. Familiarity with library management systems and emerging technology in the field.
  5. Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures that enhance library operations.

Job Description

Position Title: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Position Summary

The Board of Trustees appoints the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Library. The primary responsibility of the CEO is to develop all aspects of the Library to best meet the needs of the community. Overall responsibilities include: compliance with federal, state, and local laws which affect library operations; execution of policies adopted and promulgated by the Board of Trustees; development and execution of short and long-range plans relative to all areas of the system and full responsibility for day to day operations of the organization.

The CEO shall ensure the library remains a valuable asset to St. Charles County by utilizing a variety of sources to survey customer satisfaction and assess the needs or desires of the community. The CEO shall actively promote the value of a public library and ignite public interest in the programs and services of the Library.

The CEO shall work closely with the Library Foundation and Friends of the Library to support fundraising efforts for library operations, programs and services.

Essential Functions

  1. Execute the orders and policies issued by the Board of Trustees and those required by law.
  2. Develop short-term and long- range goals and plans relative to all areas of the system, including broad-based programs.
  3. Recommend policies to the Board of Trustees for action; execute policies and communicate actions of the Board to all staff.
  4. Direct, supervise and coordinate day to day management of the Library; establish a working environment that encourages a high level of employee morale and productivity.
  5. Provide guidance to administrative staff in the areas of: development, finance, facilities, information technology, marketing, personnel, and library services.
  6. Continually review total library services in relation to community changes, trends, interests and needs.
  7. Resolve a wide range of routine and non-routine issues and difficult situations.

Duties

  1. Develop goals and objectives jointly with the Board of Trustees for the Library and a plan for achieving them.
  2. Act as a technical advisor to the Board; recommend policies for board actions and prepare regular reports embodying the library’s current progress and future needs.
  3. Provide new board members with an orientation to the library, including a review of policies, services, physical facilities, finances, and other appropriate administrative concerns. Attend all board meetings.
  4. Develop a strategic plan with prioritized goals and objectives for improvement of the library services within the budget; utilize a variety of methods for evaluation of progress toward goals and regularly report progress to the board and employees.
  5. Work closely with the appropriate administrators to:
    • Evaluate the Library’s service plan, materials, and programming activities to ensure they meet the needs of the community and that materials are cataloged using accepted professional standards.
    • Prepare and present the annual budget and monthly budget status reports for the Board in compliance with state laws and governmental accounting principles and practices.
    • Maintain adequate insurance to protect the Library and public.
    • Ensure the physical facilities are adequate to carry out the Library’s mission and are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws including fire, safety, sanitation, handicapped accessibility, energy conservation and other applicable state, local codes or regulations.
    • Employ qualified personnel and manage the organization of personnel and staffing level throughout the system. Confirm personnel policies comply with federal and state laws and are properly applied within the organization. Oversee the total employee compensation plan which includes benefit programs.
    • Provide an integrated library automation system (ILS) and electronic information system that enhances library services and provides users with access to a variety of resources. Develop and maintain policies and procedures to preserve the confidentiality, safety, and integrity of data collected by the library.
    • Develop a comprehensive marketing program to promote the Library’s resources, services, and programs/events.
    • Develop a fundraising strategy and support the work of the Foundation and Friends of the Library.
  6. Actively engage with other libraries, governmental agencies, non-profits agencies, and the private sector in an attempt to offer the highest caliber of service to the community.
  7. Participate in professional and community organizations; may serve on committees or boards of other community organizations.
  8. Carry out duties in accordance with the Library’s Code of Ethics.
  9. Other duties deemed necessary by the Board, State Statute, or by the nature of the position.
  10. Advise Board of any elements of the Long-Term Strategic Plan that need re-examination, revision or enhancement in light of community acceptance or feedback.

The University of Missouri Libraries seek a Head Librarian to plan, direct and administer the programs and staff of the Zalk Veterinary Medicine Library. The librarian will work closely with faculty, clinicians, researchers, staff and students of the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) to provide integrated library services to support the mission of the College. Description of Duties

  • Oversee operations of the Zalk Veterinary Medical Library, including hiring, training and supervision of 2 FTE staff and student employees, and manage the library’s physical space. Develop training programs and establish performance and service standards in carrying out the mission of the Veterinary Medical Library.
  • Provide outreach, reference, and instruction services to faculty, clinicians, researchers, staff and students of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and partnering organizations.
  • Provide high-quality research consultation and literature searches pertaining to veterinary medicine and animal health.
  • Develop and update documentation, web resources and promotional content.
  • Perform collection development in the veterinary sciences and animal health, including budget management and selection of resources.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine faculty and administrators on projects and administrative groups.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: Master’s in information and/or Library Science from an ALA- accredited program or international equivalent.

Skills/Job Knowledge

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One year public service experience required
  • One year library experience is preferred

Physical Demands

  • Performs bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor level to 6 feet in height

  • Routine lifting of library materials weighing up to 30 lbs
  • Uninterrupted standing and walking for lengthy periods

Working Environment

  • Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library environment

Cass County Public Library is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Branch Manager to help lead a large-tier branch serving 7,000+ residents with an annual circulation of over 100,000 items. Working closely with the Branch Manager, this role supports library operations, staff supervision, and community engagement, ensuring the branch aligns with the library's mission and goals.

University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, MO: A full-time 12-month non-tenure track instructional faculty appointment. The Liaison Librarian to the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences provides the development and promotion of library activities and services that support the teaching, learning, and research needs of the campus community (i.e., students, faculty, and staff) including, but not limited to: teaching of information literacy/research skills in a variety of contexts, developing professional relationships, collaborating effectively with campus partners, and management of collections for UCM curricula and faculty research needs.
