Job Description - Carroll County - Green Forest Library Director

Principal Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct and coordinate all activities of the library and the development of library facilities to best serve the needs of the community. 
  • Implement programs and policies established by local, county, and regional library boards. Establish library rules and procedures not in conflict with these policies. 
  • Responsible for funds collected through the library and tax funds under supervision of the local and county library boards. 
  • Prepare an annual budget and oversee all payroll, purchasing, and other financial transactions. 
  • Recruit, select, hire, supervise, and train library personnel, including staff and volunteers. 
  • Schedule and perform Employee Performance Evaluations as required by County personnel policies and the Carroll County Library Board policies. 
  • Manage the collection, including selection and acquisition of materials, oversight of circulation, reference and reader advisory services, and weeding of library materials. 
  • Assist the public in the use of library facilities, including computers and Internet use as needed. 
  • Develop and coordinate programs, events, and displays to encourage library use by all members of the community. 
  • Maintain a safe and inviting environment for all library patrons, staff and volunteers. 
  • Maintain all library records. Prepare and submit reports as required by local, county, and regional library boards. 
  • Serve as primary liaison to library advisory board. Attend all meetings. Assist President in preparation of agendas and in communicating with board members.
  • Serve as Secretary to the Carroll County Library Board on a rotation with other Carroll County Library Directors. Attend all county library board meetings. 
  • Support local Friends of the Library group and community volunteers.
  • Promote awareness of and use of the library and represent the library in a professional and positive manner. 
  • Handle confidential materials and maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the local or county boards.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education 
  • Must be a library cardholder 

Special Skills

  • Some experience working in a library, public agency or position with public contact, or an equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the knowledge, abilities and skills listed below:
  • Knowledge of standard library practices and routines
  • Some knowledge of standard library technical and professional methods and techniques

We are seeking a Librarian to join our Callaway County team! We are looking for a librarian who is committed to customer service, excellent communication, teamwork, learning and personal growth.

 Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Librarian-in-Charge as designated; provide leadership and support by supervising the workflow and staff in the Callaway County Public Library, responding to requests for policy interpretation.
  • Work in consultation with library staff to troubleshoot and monitor equipment and workflow procedures and make recommendations to respond to changing needs.

Position Summary

The Administrative Associate provides high-level administrative and clerical support to the Executive Director, Executive Team, and Board of Trustees. Essential Functions

       Answers incoming calls and greets visitors and staff upon arrival to administrative offices

       Performs general clerical duties including, but not limited to, filing print and digital documents and records according to the records retention policy, draft documents and reports, schedule appointments and resources such as vehicle use and meeting rooms, prepares and distributes meeting agendas, and takes minutes for board and special meetings

       Builds the Board Packets for monthly and special meetings (Board of Trustees and Foundation)

       Provides hospitality, room set-up and clean-up, and handouts for meetings, as well as online invitations and recordings when necessary

reporting functions including supervising or performing the functions related to accounts payable,

The Six Mile Regional Library District (SMRLD) Board of Trustees seeks an Executive
Director to lead our library district into the future. SMRLD is a unit of local government
providing service to the residents of Granite City, Mitchell, and Pontoon Beach, Illinois.
We work closely with the incorporated municipalities (City of Granite City, Village of
Pontoon Beach) as well as local organizations (such as Granite City School and Park
Districts, Southwestern Madison County Chamber of Commerce, and Southwest Illinois
Community College) to focus on providing the community with education, information,
and instruction to promote local vitality, history, and talent.

We are a progressive library that embraces new ideas and services. Situated just six
miles from St. Louis, Missouri, we enjoy all the benefits of a “big city”: world-class
amenities such as professional sports teams, symphony, theater, zoo, botanical gardens,
museums, restaurants, travel access, universities, and more, while retaining our small
town identity.

The SMRLD has two locations with plans to further engage the community through a
bookmobile in the near future. With 8 professional librarians and a warm and welcoming
staff totaling 34, the library provides physical and digital resources along with a variety of
programming to serve a diverse community. SMRLD is looking towards the future and
plans to expand the resources to the community, and we are looking for someone

The Executive Director reports to the 7-member elected Board of Trustees.
Responsibilities:
Directly manage the administrative staff of assistant directors and other
departmental leaders, as well as support the other library leaders in the
management of all staff
Serve as a leader to ensure that the community benefits from the presence of the
library through nurturing relationships with community stakeholders, actively
participating in community boards and committees, providing adequate spaces for
community gathering, and providing good stewardship through upholding
compliance and safeguards for the staff and library
Develop and nurture library services and programs to reflect community needs
Meet community needs through supporting excellent resources and staff
Work closely with the Library Board to support effective governance
Provide strategic vision and long-term planning for the library district and lead the
development and implementation of these goals through the policies
Oversee union labor relationships and performance standards for a diverse staff
Oversee facilities planning and capital projects
Prepare financial and monthly update reports for board consideration, including the
annual budget, grants, and levy proposals

Requirements:
A master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited library school or an
equivalent combination of education and management experience. A master’s
degree or Ph.D. in library science, or an MBA or MPA with experience in libraries
7 years of progressive responsibility in library experience, of which at least 4 years
should be in a lead, supervisory, or management capacity
Proven experience in developing and managing large operating and capital
budgets, including the management of public funds
Experience leading within a multi-branch library system, a record of effective
community engagement, advocacy, and partnership-building
Proficient at using Microsoft Office, virtual meeting software, and email
communications

Preferred:
Demonstrated success leading a diverse workforce and working with unions
Experience with capital planning, fundraising, and grant administrationExperience with Strategic Planning
Experience working through legal materials with attorneys (FOIAs) and providing
compliance information to staff and board as legislation changes

We pay competitively; offer IMRF pension, 6 weeks of paid vacation, 2 personal days,
120 hours of sick leave annually, 15 paid holidays, and health insurance.

The Executive Director role is full-time. This position is based at our Delmar Avenue
location, but may also have regular hours at our Johnson Road location. Starting salary:
$100,000.00 and incentives for growth.

HR Associate, Daniel Boone Regional Library, Columbia, MO

The Human Resources Associate plays an important role in keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes. This position supports hiring, onboarding, HR systems, and the day-to-day work that helps both staff and leaders stay on track. It’s a role that touches a lot of people and processes, so being organized, paying attention to details, and following things through really matters. Duties:

         Primary responsibility for HR recruitment module tasks in Human Resources Information System (Paycom).

        Own full onboarding process including HRIS system activities, including but not limited to I-9 checklist completion, E-verify process, offer letter creation and hiring initiation, ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner and communicate with applicants as necessary.

        Post all open positions to applicable internal bulletin boards, send open position email notifications, and post on relevant local and national job boards.

        Create new hire folders with all appropriate documentation as needed; Maintain digital and paper employee personnel files, including all filing as requested by HR Generalist and HR Director.

        Own manual benefit accrual processes including maintenance of PTO autoload, below part-time PTO and Holiday Pay loading.

        Assist HR Director and HR Generalist/Trainer with reporting, analysis and other Human Resources functions as requested.

        Perform receptionist duties in the Administrative Office; greeting the public and answering phone calls. Perform Notary Public service for patrons and library staff.

Requirements:

        High school diploma or equivalent and 48 hours college credit required. 2 years of relevant experience may substitute for college credit.

        Strong excel skills and experience with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office.

        Two years of experience in human resources and administrative work preferred. Knowledge of HRIS or similar software preferred.

Description of Primary Duties:

1. Manage library electronic resources, including acquisition, implementation, renewal, assessment, and annual subscription reviews.

2. Create and share electronic resource usage reports. Implement various assessment tools.

3. Manage library print serial collection, work with vendors on digital, digital and print combination, or print packages.

4. Negotiate favorable license agreements in consultation with University Legal Affairs and Compliance and Procurement Services. Provide support for inquiries related to interpretation of license terms.

12. Serve as library liaison for designed academic areas.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in library and information science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program (or international equivalent). 

Experience: Experience reading, negotiating, and managing license agreements is required. Experience supporting the management and/or acquisition of electronic resources is required. A high level of technology proficiency, including information systems such as library service platforms, is required. Experience of troubleshooting electronic resource access issues is required. Experience using an Electronic Resource Management System such as CORAL or FOLIO is required.

Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and decision-making skills are required. The ability to analyze and evaluate data to produce reports and recommendations for decision-making purposes is required. The ability to effectively use technology in creative ways to address challenges is required. The ability to manage details associated with the implementation of complex policies and procedures is required. The ability to foster a work environment encouraging positive engagement with those of differing cultures and backgrounds is required. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Libraries the Discovery Librarian plays a key role in ensuring seamless access to the library’s electronic and physical collections by managing, optimizing, and enhancing discovery systems and metadata workflows. This position focuses on user experience, systems integration, metadata quality, and collaborative problem-solving to improve how students, faculty, and researchers discover and use library resources.

The Discovery Librarian works closely with colleagues across technical services, systems, public services, and digital initiatives to develop, maintain, and continuously refine the library’s discovery environment.

Description of Duties

Discovery Services, Systems Management, and Supervision

  • Administer and configure the library’s discovery layer (e.g., EBSCO Discovery Service, WorldCat Discovery, Institutional Repository) to ensure accurate, intuitive resource discovery
  • In collaboration with UM system site coordinators, manage ILS and other services platforms and participate in decision making for settings, configuration, and optimization
  • Communicate regarding updates and known issues and coordinate testing and troubleshooting for the S&T campus. Provide input and feedback for how the UM system interacts with consortia
  • Maintain integrations among the discovery layer, knowledge bases, link resolvers, ILS/LSP systems, e-resource management systems, and external platforms
  • Troubleshoot access issues related to metadata, authentication, holdings, and linking
  • Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates direct reports

Metadata & Catalog Optimization

  • Collaborate with cataloging and e-resources teams to monitor metadata quality and ensure accurate indexing, and record consistency
  • Develop policies, procedures, and documentation for metadata workflows that support effective discovery
  • Analyze usage patterns and search analytics to identify and address discovery gaps

User Experience & Assessment

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of the discovery environment for external and internal reporting
  • Serve as a point of contact for discovery-related feedback from library users and staff

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with librarians, catalogers, and digital initiatives staff to support integrated access to resources
  • Communicate system updates, changes, and best practices across the library

Professional Engagement & Development

Qualifications

Required Education

Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent)

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of two years (2) experience with integrated library systems (ILS) or library services platforms (LSP), discovery layers, or knowledge bases
  • Understanding of metadata standards such as MARC, RDA, Dublin Core, and linked data concepts
