The UMKC University Libraries are seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Head of LaBudde Special Collections (LSC). The Head of LaBudde Special Collections is responsible for the direction, administration, operations, and long-term planning for the Kenneth J. LaBudde Department of Special Collections. The position provides guidance and support for print-based archival processing and collections management for the Special Collections and Archives (SCA) Division. The position facilitates access to archival and rare book collections by providing expertise on archival arrangement, description, bibliographic access, preservation, storage, and security of special collections materials held in the UMKC University Libraries. The position oversees collections management activities by overseeing departmental workflows and collaborating with fellow department heads on establishing SCA divisional priorities and policies. In addition to these responsibilities, the position monitors trends and developments in rare book and archives management and recommends appropriate adoption and implementation of new technologies and methods for access, organization, and preservation. Prominent collections in LSC include the Starr Women’s Hall of Fame inductee collections, the Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America, and the Edgar Snow Collections. SCA supports a major component of teaching and learning in the humanities, arts, and social sciences using primary source materials; provides high impact learning experiences to a broad range of students including the development of national award-winning student-curated exhibits; and directly supports undergraduate research initiatives.

The University of Missouri-Kansas City Libraries are seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Assistant Dean of Special Collections and Archives. The Assistant Dean serves as a member of the Deans’ Leadership Group and works collaboratively with the Dean and the Associate Dean of Library Services to articulate the vision and strategic direction of the Libraries and to implement the Libraries’ strategic plan. Together, they develop and manage the Libraries budget according to established standards and practices.
The Assistant Dean of Special Collections and Archives provides focused leadership for the Division, overseeing its operations while advancing research in a world-class special collections operation. The Assistant Dean oversees the acquisition, original and copy cataloging, metadata and resource description, and physical and digital preservation of rare and distinctive materials. The position supports primary source research, special collections access, digital exhibits and projects, experiential learning, and campus and external community engagement.
The Assistant Dean administers the Special Collections and Archives (SCA) Division, which includes the internationally renowned Marr Sound Archives, LaBudde Special Collections, the UMKC University Archives, Digital Projects, and UMKC Libraries Cataloging & Resource Management. The SCA Division serves UMKC students and faculty as well as visiting scholars and researchers. The Assistant Dean ensures representation of the UMKC Libraries in University of Missouri System-wide initiatives to build, organize, maintain and preserve digital and physical collections and archives and ensure compliance with university policies on records management and archives. The Assistant Dean monitors trends in special collections librarianship, archives and catalog management, and digital collections to recommend appropriate adoption and implementation of new technologies, standards, and methods. The Assistant Dean works to seek external funding through government and foundation grants for projects that advance the priorities of the Division, and to encourage Division faculty to do so as well. MU Libraries seeks an innovative and collaborative librarian to serve as Languages, Literatures
and Digital Humanities Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Research and Information Services,
this librarian will serve as a subject librarian for assigned humanities areas and supporting
digital humanities. Entry level and experienced librarians are encouraged to apply. Training and

Description of Duties
1. Engages in library liaison activities with assigned academic disciplines in languages,
literatures, linguistics and other assigned areas within humanities.
• Serves as a proactive ambassador to highlight Libraries’ services, resources, and

Skills & Tasks:
Run the Reference Desk (i.e. opening, closing). Assist our community with a range of information needs & questions, including use of our library catalog, public computers, databases, and making reading suggestions. If we don’t have what they need? Help them find it another way!
Get certified as a passport agent through training from the Department of State, and help people meet their travel goals & needs. You must meet all the qualifications of becoming a passport acceptance agent (read section C).
Run a book club at Adams Place. This is an outreach book club.
Develop, organize, and present events in the Library and in the community that represent all backgrounds.
Assist in the selection of books, movies, music, etc to be added to the library’s collection. Assist in retiring items that may be in poor condition or replace things that need to be updated.
Marketing! At small libraries we create our own buzz! Do you know Canva or want to learn? Awesome, you’ll hop right in creating flyers and digital content to post to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram...you name it, we’ve got it.
Perform other duties as assigned (this could be jumping in to help customer service, home borrowing services, collecting data at programs, and more!).
